Our History
The Bach Society of Dayton was Born
We were formed in 2002 by a group of singers from the former Dayton Bach Society, who performed from 1974 to 2002. These singers were so committed to continuing the group’s tradition of choral excellence that they became board members and singers for the new organization.
John Neely was asked to guest conduct the first concert and was our music director for 20 years. R. Alan Kimbrough has been the Bach Society accompanist throughout its history, starting with the former Dayton Bach Society in 1974. In 2022, Dr. David Crean became our music director.
We presented our inaugural concert on December 8, 2002. Since then, we have established a reputation for inspirational performances of the greatest classical works for chorus and orchestra, including Mozart’s Requiem and Grand Mass in C Minor and J. S. Bach’s Magnificat, St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, and Mass in B Minor.
